Wonder why Saab would name its latest creation a fashionista car but this concept car

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Sunday, May 24, 2009, In : Cars

Latest in fashion provided Saab or its parent company General Motors will still be in the car manufacturing business or even in business at all. The Saab Fashionista, Green 2+2 Sport Coupe is actually the result of the fertile mind of Creapole-ESDI fourth year design student Mayeul Walser.

True to its name it has in fact been inspired by Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld’s fashion design. And talking of car fashion under this shapely bodywork is a range-extended electric powertrain.

The powerful V6 h...

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Sunday, May 24, 2009, In : Cars

Such a backdrop has a tendency to give rise to the though that this Coupe is indestructible even by a nuclear disaster but that’s far from the truth although this version is a great improvement over its predecessor.

This coupe is the precursor of the E-family that will soon be unveiled and which will include a station wagon. The 2010 Mercedes-Benz E550 Coupe will be powered by a 1.5-Liter V6 engine producing 268 horsepower and a torque of 258 pound-feet. There is also a version powered by a ...

If Mr. Bean’s Mini Cooper has elicited a lot of laughs then wait till you see the Mini Cooper S by Arden and you will start to look at Mini Coopers in a different light. Made by German tuning company Arden which is popular for modifying British vehicles like the Land Rover and the Jaguar, the Mini Cooper S by Arden looks the same but entirely different. It is the same practical Mini you can tag along tight city streets but it looks sporty.

The standard Mini Cooper has a 1.6-Liter engine prod...

Latest findings says cars more affordable now than they have been since study began in 1979

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Monday, May 11, 2009, In : Cars

While tanking auto sales are bad for automakers, the customers buying cars and trucks are paying less for them than any time in the past 30 years. Comerica Bank's Auto Affordability Index shows that a vehicle with a $26,000 MSRP takes the average family 21.5 weeks of median income to buy. That's 1.3 weeks less than in December of 2008, as incentives have grown by an average of $1,700 per vehicle purchase in only five months. Lower interest rates and deep discounts are being assisted by looser...

Thank goodness for cruise night

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Monday, May 11, 2009, In : Cars

Talking about the auto industry nowadays is pretty depressing. Two-thirds of Detroit is now kept afloat by the taxpayer. Nobody's making any money. Politics trumps Pontiacs. Capitol Hill gasbags blather on about the small, fuel-efficient cars we all supposedly want. Cool, fun cars that look good, go fast and make loud noises don't fit the new narrative.

So it was with great pleasure and a sigh of relief that, while running a couple of errands on Friday, I came across the weekly Classic Nights ...

The Gumballers who began in Los Angeles earlier this week have made it to the near end of their cross country journey in Florida, though not without some snafus along the way. Autoblog friend and freelance auto journalist Myles Kornblatt was on hand to capture the cars in all their bug-encrusted glory as they made their way from Orlando to Palm Beach Int. New roof-crush standards reported to cost automakers $1.4 billion annually

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, In : Cars

It's been almost 35 years since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) enacted its roof strength standards, but come late 2012 the new requirements will be in affect and in addition to saving around 135 lives each year and preventing over 1,000 injuries, it's going to cost automakers around $1.4 billion annually.

The new standards up the current crush force from 1.5-times the vehicle's unloaded weight to 2.5-times, along with maintaining sufficient head-room for an average-...

2009 Mercury Mariner Hybrid To Make More Money For Ford

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Sunday, May 3, 2009, In : Cars

The increasing price of fuel has made the Hybrid vehicle a rage making the battery-assisted Ford Escape a hit in 2004 since it was the first car company to offer a hybrid utility vehicle. At a not-so-cheap $30,000 per vehicle it is amazing that one in every eight Escape vehicle sold is a hybrid. With the entry of the 2009 Mercury Mariner Hybrid Ford now has two options for the hybrid-crazy car market and frankly, more options to make more money.

The 2009 Mercury Mariner Hybrid has a price tag ...

Ford sells more cars in April than Toyota

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Saturday, May 2, 2009, In : Cars

What's this? Somehow, the natural order of things in the automotive world has been upset to the point that Ford (129,898 total units) has outsold Toyota (126,540 total units) in the United States in the month of April. For those keeping track of such things, this is the first time in over a year that the Blue Oval (consisting of Ford, Lincoln and Mercury, but not including Volvo) has moved more machines than the mighty Toyota.

Normally, posting a 31% decline in sales compared to the same month...

Chrysler products from Fiat could be here in 18 months

Posted by Ahmad Faraz on Saturday, May 2, 2009, In : Cars

Will we see a new line of Fiats in America in just 18 months? According to Chrysler vice chairman and president Tom LaSorda, the answer is "yes." Responding to reports that some analysts predict it will take upwards of three years before the first Fiat is (once again) sold in America, LaSorda said:

"We've done a lot of pre-work in terms of homologations and emissions. Eighteen months is practical. Three years is fundamentally wrong. We can do it faster."

Of course, in light of Thursday's ba...

These days, it's nearly impossible to find a new automobile that doesn't come equipped with a barrage of airbags to keep the driver and passengers safe in the event of an crash. That's all well and good, but what about the pedestrians that happen to be in the vehicle's line of fire?

A team in the U.K., led by Roger Hardy of Cranfield University, has developed a new hood-mounted airbag system that would theoretically improve the safety of pedestrians that come face-to-face with the windshield o...

Ford's image gets a boost by nixing federal aid

In what has to be one of the least surprising developments related to the auto industry, a newly-released survey finds that Americans' favorable view of Ford Motor Company has increased substantially since it became the sole member of the Detroit Three to abstain from taking federal funds.

Before the Capitol Hill Bailout Bonanza got going in earnest late last year, just 41% of Americans held the Blue Oval in a positive light. Now, after billions of taxpayer dollars have been spent keeping now-...

So in addition to creating the 705-hp Corvette ZR700, 715-hp GTR700 and a duo of force-fed Camaros, Hennessey has decided to tackle the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V – and in the process created a four-door ZR1.
